Novatrooper Sentinels are an elite unit of the Special Ops Corps, often utilized to temporarily secure perimeters immediately following sieges in preparation for permanent occupation. Sentinels operate in limited numbers Novatrooper corp squads, at times offering support during sieges and fulfilling unique roles on the battlefield.

Examples of notable Sentinels: TL-017, the Nova Sentinel assigned to secure the capitol following the siege of Bestine known for his vehemently pro-Imperial rhetoric offered to anyone willing to stay long enough to listen to it.


Black text indicates a feature that is required for approval. Blue text denotes features that are nice to have, but not required. Red text indicates features that take the prop/costume item to an even higher level of accuracy.

For 501st membership only the requirements listed in black need to be met.

Special Notes:

  • The armor parts shall be gloss black and made from one of these types of materials or like materials: Fiberglass, ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), or HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene).
  • All striping "flash" is clean and unweathered.
  • Blasters are not required for legion membership per our weapons policy.


This CRL entry has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team. Costumes of this type must be submitted to the LMO team via the GML forum at 501st.com for approval.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

For 501st approval:
  • Lenses must be sufficiently dark enough to obscure the costumer's eyes. They may be flat or bubbled. Acceptable colors are: black, smoke, or dark green.
  • The "ear" bars have three or four bumps and may be left the same color as the body or painted flat black.
  • The frown must have either 6 or 8 teeth cut out. If there are spaces between the teeth the wearer's face must not be seen.
  • The tube stripes are black in color and may number between 9 and 15 per side with the curve bends extending backwards. These may be hand painted or decals. There does not need to be the same number per side.
  • The aerators (cylinders on either side of the vocoder) are black, and screening maybe silver or black.
  • Traps (trapezoids on dome of helmet) and tears (area beneath the corners of eye lenses) are solid black.
  • Helmet flash is a silver stripe that runs horizontally along the brow with thicker sections cut at a right angle near the temple traps. Another horizontal silver stripe runs between the rear dome traps and is between half and three quarters the height of the traps. Silver bars must also sit under the tube stripes on each side.
    • Note: The FX helmet is considered deprecated (to be avoided), though is acceptable for Legion requirements.
    • Note: A stock (out of the box) MRCE and/or EFX PCR helmet does not meet the basic 501st requirements without the major modification that are necessary.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Ears shall have three screws per side, one above and one below the ear bar and one at the base of the helmet.
  • Ear bars should have four bumps only, not three.
  • Correct 'Hovi mic' aerator tips.
  • FX helmets are not allowed.

  • Black with horizontal ribs, fitted to the wearer, and extending from the base of the neck to the top of the Adam's apple.

  • These must be securely mounted in front and may free float in back.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • No visible rivets are allowed
  • Shoulder straps must terminate at the back with ribbing; the rear tabs must be removed.

  • One on each shoulder with a gold vertical stripe running down the center of the outside. The shoulder bells are considered effectively symmetrical; they may worn interchangeably on the left and right shoulders.

  • Biceps are fully closed with a silver vertical stripe running down the center of the outside.

For 501st approval:
  • Roughly pentagonal in shape, the hand plates are silver and are mounted securely over the back of the glove. As an alternative to plastic, these may be made out of latex or latex-like material.

  • Hand guards shall be latex or latex-like, painted white, affixed to rubber gloves in lieu of plastic hand guards.

  • Black in color, made of either rubber, nomex, leather, or leather-like material, with no visible straps or logos/designs. The fingers are enclosed, non-textured.

  • The abdomen armor has a button area with 9 gloss black buttons, approximately 7/16" in diameter.

  • A single kidney/ posterior armor piece is acceptable.
  • If a separate kidney plate is used, it lines up with the abdomen armor.
  • The top of the kidney armor is flush to or under the back armor.

For 501st approval:
  • A single kidney/ posterior armor piece is acceptable.
  • If a separate posterior plate is used, it lines up below the bottom of the belt with with the abdomen armor.
  • There is a minimal gap between the posterior and and kidney armor.

  • Belt face is made of plastic (ammo belt). It is comprised of 6 rectangular boxes, with three square buttons, one centered in the middle and one on each end.
  • Belt proper may be made from glossy black ABS or a similar shiny material and must be 3 to 3.5" wide. Black canvas or similar heavy material may also be used.
  • Drop boxes (small rectangular parts attached seen hanging from Stormtrooper belts, above the thigh.) holster and thermal detonator must not be worn.

For 501st approval:
  • The thigh armor may open and firmly close in the back allowing the two halves to appear sealed when viewed by spectators. The ammo belt is installed on the bottom of the right thigh.

  • The shin armor is able to open and firmly close in the back allowing the two halves to appear sealed when viewed by spectators. The trapezoid knee plate is affixed to the top of the left lower leg piece. The hexagon in the center and upper ridge of the knee plate as well as its top trim must be gold.

For 501st approval:
  • Black leather or leather-like, above ankle height, with a flat sole, and small U-shaped elastic sections on both sides of the ankle with no buckles or laces. Jodphur-type boots or an equivalent style. All stitching must be black, and unnecessary or decorative stitching must not be present. Elvis / Mariachi boots are not acceptable.
  • White, or other color boots may be painted black so long as the boots are maintained to remain the proper color.

  • Made of black leather or leather-like material.
  • Holster must be worn on the left and be may be attached to the belt from behind with rivets or with loops covering the outside of the belt.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present must meet the guidelines below.


Generic-dlt19.jpeg DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle
For 501st approval:

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle is much more powerful with a much greater range than the E-11 blaster. Because of its powerful, long range capabilities, this rifle is commonly used on Imperial controlled planets with large, clear, open areas.

  • Based on a real or replica MG-34 machine gun.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • A DLT-19 is an MG-34 with T-tracks on the barrel, ejection port cover added, and a small disk on left side.


Generic-rt97.jpeg RT-97C Heavy Blaster Rifle
For 501st approval:

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the RT-97C features a long barrel to increase the firing range of the energy beam projectile. Three scopes increase accuracy and versatility. The first scope is an energy scanner capable of detecting life forms. The second scope is a rangefinder that automatically adjusts the targeting components. The third scope uses infrared heat imaging technology.

  • Based on a real or replica MG-15 machine gun.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Correct style scopes.
  • Silver metal hose is present on the right hand side of barrel between the trigger and "saddle barrel".

For 501st approval:

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries.

  • Based on a real or replica Lewis Mark I machine gun. For this prop the magazine disk and bipod of the original gun are left off.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • A ribbed length of tubing shall be installed over the front of the gun barrel.
  • A canvas, leather, or nylon sling shall be attached.
  • Sight shall be present on top where ribbing meets base.
