Required Costume Components

The following costume components must be present and appear as described below for approval .

The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

The Blizzard Force Detachment defines additional, optional costuming details listed in blue. Please visit the Blizzard Force web site for more details on these options.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

  • Gloss white, semi-gloss, or lightly weathered.
  • Dark green or black lenses.
  • Licensed helmets are acceptable with modifications:
    • Remove the manufacturer logo.
    • Replace stock lens.
    • Replace inaccurate "fish-hook" logo
    • Replace stock bolts with flat-disc "elevator" bolts.
    • Visor Bolts painted white.
    • Replace inaccurate aerator.
  • Fan-made helmets are acceptable as long as they remain true to shape of original screen accurate helmet.
    • If needed, modify to correct shape of screen accurate helmet

  • Velcro enclosure, vertically down center of back.
  • Horizontal rows, evenly spaced.
    • Any excess material on bottom is tucked into the flight suit.

For 501st approval:
  • The undersuit is a one or two-piece white textile suit, such as military flightsuits, motorcycle racing suits, industrial work clothing (coverall), or similar suit modified appropriately.
  • Tan suede or faux suede thigh patches must be present, extending over the flight suit crotch and down the front finishing above the knee armor.
    • The thigh patches must be secured by 2” white elastic, sewn in under the front and back of the thigh patch.
  • Must have a suede or faux suede, rectangle shaped, rear flap.
    • The flap is attached above the waist with the attachment point hidden by the cummerbund.
    • The flap should be slightly narrower than the width of the trooper and stop slightly higher than the bottom of the troopers rear.
    • The flap is tan in color, matching the riding patch.
  • Suit must not have any visible labels, logos or zippers (including built in flight suit pockets).

For 501st approval:
  • Made out of tan or off white matte finish heavy weight cotton fabric.
  • Sleeves should be padded and contain ribbing similar to the front of the cummerbund. The sleeves should end just slightly longer then the bottom edge of the shoulder armor.
  • Must have a much wider neck opening then the flight suit.
  • Secured at the back using 2” white Velcro.

  • Made out of tan or off white matte finish heavy weight cotton fabric, same as the vest.
  • Cummerbund closes in the back with 2 inch Velcro.
  • Should sit from just under the chest armor down to the waist.
  • Has a tapered crotch, made from the same material and includes a stitched inverted curve detail. It sits between the legs and connects to the back of the cummerbund with a 2 inch, white elastic strap.
  • The vest Has 6 or 7 (trooper’s choice) vertical stitch lines producing 5 or 6 raised ribs of equal width, stitched into the front and centered.
  • There are NO front pouches on the cummerbund.

  • Gloss white, semi-gloss or weathered.
  • The back plate has a tank attached.
    • The top of the tank is flat with a detail piece painted black, and must use the same greeblies as what is seen on screen. There is also a white painted circle and red line detail to be included.
    • The tank has a black stripe detail.
    • Scouts may have additional "rank indicators" that are present on the right side of the tank and can number anywhere from 0 to 6 stripes.

For 501st approval:
  • Gloss white, semi-gloss or lightly weathered.
  • The front and two "boxes" of the belt are made out of plastic.
  • The rest of the belt that fastens at the back of the waist is made out a textile material, drop box straps can be white or off white (if using off white pouches and side straps must also be off white.
  • The back of the belt has a rectangular thermal detonator box with short grey corrigated hose.
  • The correct thermal detonator greeblies must be attached to the box, the rectangular part of the TD greeblie is the same as used in the rebel endor troopers rank badge, which is fixed on the left side of the TD, on the right the same round greeblie as what is used on the scouts tank topper. See the detonator detail page for a close up image of the greeblies.
  • Hanging from the sides of the belt are hip boxes, also made out of plastic. These are connected to the belt by textile straps.

  • Gloss white, semi-gloss or lightly weathered.
  • Black elastic is used to secure the armor around the leg.

  • Knee armor should have two elastic straps: one that is 25mm (1") wide which passes through the knee armor on the bottom, and a second that is 12mm (1/2") wide riveted to the top sides of the knee armor, and left silver in color.

  • Must include painted details including several squares in the recessed area, red and gray accents on the right side, and a gray square on the left side.
  • A T shaped greeblie is required in the recessed area.
  • Box section must have a three button "rank bar" mounted on top, with a silver backing and two slotted screws holding it in place.
  • 2 shoulder straps connected to the top of the chestplate.
  • Rivets in the sides of chestplate to secure backpack straps.

  • Canadian Mukluk boots with or without the inside liner.
  • Three 1 to 1-1/4" straps must be added to the upper portion of the boots. Straps are riveted with one rivet per strap in the back of the boot.
