TIE pilots served in the Imperial Navy by piloting the various TIE series starfighters.

Costume Components
150px Helmet
For 501st approval:
  • The TIE pilot helmet as seen in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.
  • Either from Don Post, Rubies (licensed) or Fan Made.
  • Must meet screen accuracy requirements.
  • Helmet may have flat or bubbled lenses in Dark Gray or Dark Green.
  • The helmet must also have imperial disks (greeblies) on the ear wells.
  • Two 2.75" diameter Imperial Emblems in either white or silver should be on the crest of the helmet as seen in the diagrams below.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • The frown between the teeth may be drilled out but if so, then it must be backed by material so that the face is not seen.
  • Colours of markings may range from chrome to silver, brushed aluminum to light gray to dark gray (gun metal), but must be consistent - pick a colour and stick with it
For level three certification (if applicable):

  • Black Ribbed Hoses with a 1.25" diameter and 18" to 21" in length from the helmet hose port to connect to the chestbox upper hose ports.

  • Black Balaclava is required to be worn under the helmet so that no hair or skin can be seen.

For 501st approval:
  • Flight suit should be made to resemble that which is seen on the screen.
  • Military Flight suits are no longer to be worn.
  • Thigh pockets and commpad pockets must exist.
  • Coveralls should be modified to be worn
  • The flight suit must also have either 3" or 3.5" White or Silver Cog on Black on both shoulders, one inch from the sleeve seam.

  • The comm pad should sit in a pocket that is visible between the left elbow and gauntlet of the glove.

For 501st approval:
  • Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on popular eBay available buckles.
  • The belt shall be constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material, approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width (up to 3" (76.s mm) is acceptable)
  • The buckle shall be constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material.
  • A single large snap or rivet should be visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle. The belt may be worn with the snap to the right or left of the wearer.
  • The buckle size should be approximately 2 5/8" (66.7 mm) high and 4 1/8" (104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners.
  • Buckles are adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Belt must be made of leather.
  • Snap is to be worn to the left of the wearer.
  • Buckles shall have a slight horizontal curve.

  • A stepped cone shape appearing to be 3 disks stacked on top of one another.
  • The bottom disk is 1" (25.3 mm) the middle disk is 3/4" (19.1 mm) and the top disk is 1/2" (12.7 mm.)
  • There is an indentation in the center of the top disk about 1/4" (6.4 mm)
  • This code disk is included on the hat and belt buckle.
