The 187th Attack Battalion serve in the Grand Army of the Republic under Jedi Master and General Mace Windu, and are distinguished by the purple markings on their armor. Clone troops are led by an Airborne Commander of Mace Windu’s 187th and were deployed in the Battle of Dantooine and Battle of Coruscant.


The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

  • Realistic style ROTS Airborne “Beehive” type helmet.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white with purple details.
  • Helmet has rounded dome with no Mohawk.
  • Helmet has narrow horizontal black eye lens.

    • Intake is covered with black mesh or screen.

  • The right belt box strap runs up and into the harness connector from behind, then feeds outward over front and crosses the chest down to left belt box. *Front belt boxes each have a small, 1/2 inch high, grey connector frame detail on top that strap feeds into.
  • A silver buckle is secured at the center of the cross over strap.
  • Overlaid on top of front straps, over right chest, is a black angular plate. Plate is located between shoulder connector and metal buckle.
  • Back – khaki belt strap is 2 inches wide and attaches to back harness connector and extends down to the rear right belt box, next to the detonator.
  • Rear right belt box has a small 1/2 inch high grey connector frame detail on top that strap feeds into.

For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style messenger type Airborne Bag.
  • Bag is khaki colored military messenger type bag, approximately 14 -16 inches wide and shorter height approximately 10 inches.
  • A wide shoulder strap connects to each side of bag and is held over the right shoulder.
  • Top closing flap of bag has a center clasp.
  • (3) detonator canisters are held in loops, on front of bag strap.
  • Bag is weathered with shades of grey.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Canisters have end cap features with right facing end having an indented detail and 5/8 inch circle, and left facing end with raised circular area.

For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style Abdomen Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • An 1 inch wide, gunmetal grey vertical detail stripe, runs down the center of the abdomen.
  • Eight 1/4" diameter holes, with four holes inside each indented channel of the abdomen.
  • Abdomen section wraps around the wearers body and is sealed at sides or at back.
  • Abdomen is completely contained under the chest and back armor.
  • Abdomen aligns with codpiece with the seam line hidden by the belt.
  • Purple areas are weathered with various scuff marks.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Seam line along sides or back has no gap.

For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style Codpiece and and Posterior armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Cod and posterior armor connect at the hips.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Hips have correct detail connector snap and edge feature at the codpiece and posterior side connection.

For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style belt, boxes, and detonator.
  • Belt, boxes and detonator are painted matte or satin white with blue detail
  • Eight Belt Boxes are attached to Belt, with four on each side.
    • The two largest Boxes are in front with angled top surface that is higher toward the center.
    • The smallest boxes are located behind the front boxes, about 1/8 inch apart and have an angled end on top.
    • The medium sized matching boxes, with flat top cover, are about 1/8 inch from smallest boxes.
    • Left rear box is spaced closer to detonator and has two square buttons in the top left corner, and two dashed indented detail marks on bottom right.
    • Right rear box is spaced closer to detonator and has a bar with two small cylinders centered, and two dashed indented detail marks on bottom left.
  • Command buckle is attached behind front belt center and hangs below.
  • Belt front, between front boxes, has three vertical rectangle indents which are spaced apart by two protruding rectangle areas.
    • Gunmetal grey vertical bar is on each protruding rectangle area.
    • The rest of the belt is flat surfaced with raised edging on top and bottom that run along the rest of the belt.
  • Front Belt Boxes have gunmetal grey detail inverted “T” that is 7/8 inch wide on vertical bar, and 5/8 inch wide on horizontal bar.
  • A detonator is centered and attached to back of Belt.
    • Detonator tube is about 2 1/4 inch diameter with wider detailed end caps.
    • Seven horizontally aligned square buttons are on left side of tube, facing backwards.
    • The first, second, fifth and sixth buttons are blue.
  • Belt is weathered with shades of grey and has scuff marks.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Boxes are notched on back and fit flush to belt.
For level three certification (if applicable):
  • Back of belt, between rear boxes, has horizontal ribbing.
  • Detonator has 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide rectangle base, connecting detonator to Belt.

For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style Kama is khaki.
  • Center bottom edge of Kama has a triangle split.
  • Kama wraps around cod and posterior armor under the belt.
    • Front edges align about 1 inch behind outside edge of front belt boxes.
  • Kama is made from a heavy fabric material like denim or duck cloth.
    • Leather or vinyl is not acceptable.
  • Kama extends down to align with the bottom of the knee armor.
  • White, 1/2 inch wide connector straps are attached to Kama, approximately 6 inches below the belt boxes.
  • Metal clips at the end of the strap connect to the command buckle which is centered on the front of the belt.
  • Kama is weathered.


Airborne 187th Thighs.jpg Thigh Armor
For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style Thigh Armor.
  • Armor is panted matte or satin white with gunmetal grey detail.
  • Thigh Armor has a flat triangle area above the knee which transitions to a ridge line that runs up the front of the thigh to the top edge.
  • Rear of armor has an indented area.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
  • Left thigh has two parallel 3/4 inch gunmetal grey detail strips, spaced 1 inch apart and angle diagonally from upper inner thigh to lower outside edge.
    • Shorter stripe is 8 1/2 inches long and the other is 9 inches long.
  • Gunmetal Grey areas are weathered with various scuff marks.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Outside lower portion of the thighs come to a point and inner lower end is rounded.
Airborne 187th Knees.jpg Knee Armor
For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style Knee Armor.
  • Armor is panted matte or satin white with purple and gunmetal grey detail.
  • Knees are painted completely purple.
  • Right knee has two 1/2 inch wide parallel gunmetal grey stripes, spaced apart 1/4 inches, and run from the outer right top to the base of the protruding flat area.
    • Shorter stripe is 4 inches long and the other is 5 inches long.
  • Knees have a protruding flat area in front, oriented towards the top of knee.
  • Knees bend around the front and connect to white detail clips that connect the strap on each side.
  • A white colored flat strap, about 2 inches wide, wraps around back of leg.
  • Purple areas are weathered with various scuff marks.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey and has scuff marks.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Flat strap has raised 5/8 Inch wide grey center strap.
Airborne 187th Shins.jpg Lower Leg Armor
For 501st approval:
  • Realistic style lower leg armor.
  • Armor is panted matte or satin white.
  • Front of lower leg has a flat triangular detail at the top which transitions to a ridge line that travels down the front of the armor to the ankle.
  • Back of the lower leg has an indented arched area that continues down to the ankle.
  • Bottom of the back side has an arched half circle engraved line at the heel.
  • Armor is seamless, except where the calf spoon connects to the back of the lower leg indent edge.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Calf spoon inserts connect to lower leg inside and are secured to keep in place.
Airborne 187th Boots.jpg Boots
For 501st approval:
  • White, ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle and eliminate any black undersuit visible at the ankle.
  • Boots are lace-less.
  • The boots have armor detail to include a natural seam at the toe and a strap that goes over the top of the foot with two protruding disks at each side of the strap.
  • There are no markings or labels from the shoe makers.
  • Boot soles are flat.
  • Boot soles are colored primer grey.


Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present must meet the guidelines below.


DC15 carbine.jpg DC-15S Blaster
For 501st approval:

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries the DC-15S is smaller in scale than the DC-15A blaster rifle. Although it has a shorter range than that of the "A" model, it is easier to handle with a higher rate of fire. It features a folding stock for braced firing.

  • Blaster rifle may be scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
  • Total length should be approximately 26 “or 66 cm.
  • Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is not allowed.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Folding stock (does not need to function).
  • A total of (12) radiator fins are present on the barrel.
  • Spare igniter is present on both sides of barrel.
  • Charge magazine is present on the right side.
For level three certification (if applicable):
  • Charge magazine is metal to gun metal grey in color.
  • Any bolts and screws are metal to gun metal grey in color.
  • Parts of the spare igniter are copper in color.
  • Blaster is weathered.


DC15 rifle.jpg DC-15A Blaster Rifle
For 501st approval:

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DC-15A is a tibanna gas, cartridge powered weapon. Hyper-ionized blue plasma bolts are more than capable of penetrating armored units. Exceptionally effective against both droids and contemporary targets.

  • Blaster rifle is scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
  • Total length is approximately 55 inches (139.7 cm).
    • Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is not allowed.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • A total of (10) radiator fins are present on the barrel.
  • A power setting adjuster is present.
  • The correct style of sniper scope is present.
  • Charge magazine lock is present on the left side.
  • Power setting adjuster, sniper scope and charge magazine lock is metal to gun metal gray in color.
For level three certification (if applicable):
  • Sniper scope is able to be removed from storage position (bottom of rifle) and attached to the top of the rifle.
  • Parts of the spare igniter are copper in color.
  • Front optical sight is able to flip to the up position.
  • Any bolts and screws are metal to gun metal grey in color.
  • Blaster is weathered.
