CRL Style Guide
This page is to help CRL editors with the formatting necessary to make the CRLs work.
Prepare Photos if Possible
The first thing is to upload the photos via the multiple file upload page.
- File names should be in the format of XX__costume_description.jpg. For example, TK_esb_helmet.jpg. The name doesn't matter much, but you need to be able to reference them easily.
- The photos should be clear and well lit, and be on a photoshopped white background. If you cannot do this yourself, please contact the LMO team for assistance. Michael can be contacted via sld@ionicdesign.com.
- If you do not have photos for the costume, please continue anyway, leaving the photo names blank for now.
- If you've forgotten the name of your photos, you can find them in the list of uploaded files. Files in the wiki are referenced by File:imagename, for example File:TK_esb_armordetail.jpeg.
Make note of the detachment ID
You will need the ID of the detachment in some of the templates:
| 1102 | Jolly Roger Squadron |
| 1103 | PathFinders |
| 1104 | Mos Eisley Police Department |
| 1105 | Bounty Hunters Guild |
| 1106 | Armored Cavalry Detachment |
| 1107 | Blizzard Force |
| 1108 | Imperial Officer Corps |
| 1109 | Krayt Clan |
| 1110 | Sith Lord Detachment |
| 1111 | Clone Trooper Detachment |
| 1112 | Imperial Gunnery Corps |
| 1113 | Spec Ops Detachment |
| 1114 | Sovereign Protectors |
| 1115 | Flagship Eclipse Detachment |
| 1116 | First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment |
Creating the page
Pages are created by visiting the URL you want to use. All CRLs should follow the naming convention
http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:name_CRL
For example, to create a new test CRL page, simply go to:
http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Test_CRL
If the page does not already exist, you'll be taken to a page which, amongst other links, includes an option to "edit this page". Click that link and you'll be brought to a text entry page.
In a new browser window, go to: http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRLSkeleton
Click edit on the skeleton page and copy the contents.
Paste those contents into your new CRL page and click save.
You have now created a new page and included a basic framework to fill in.
Click edit on your new page and begin filling in content. When you are done, notify lmo@501st.com.
Template Descriptions
The CRL pages in the wiki are comprised of a number of templates designed to make it easier to ensure consistent formatting. These templates should be added in order as shown below.
Templates are included in a page by using the template name, |, and values to substitute into the template.
{{Templatename|value1|value1}}
That may sound confusing now, but it should make more sense after you read everything below.
Header (CRLheader)
The CRLheader template is the first thing on the page. It takes 4 values:
- Name of the costume
- Image of the costume in the format of File:Imagename.jpg
- Name of the model
- Name of the photographer
For example:
{{CRLheader|Stormtrooper, A New Hope (Stunt) | File:TK_anh_stunt.jpeg |TK-8377|Patrizio Logar}}
Produces :
|
| Stormtrooper, A New Hope (Stunt) |
|
| Model TK-8377, Photo by Patrizio Logar |
Detachment Info (CRLdetinfo)
This is the next block on the page. It takes 5 values:
- Detachment ID
- Name of the costume
- 2 letter designation of the costume
- Context in which the costume appears (Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Galaxies, etc...)
- Description of the costume
Example:
{{CRLdetinfo| 1116 |Stormtrooper, A New Hope (Stunt)|TK|Episode IV: A New Hope|Stormtroopers are the backbone of the Galactic Empire. Renowned for their accuracy, stormtroopers served as the boarding party during the raid on the Tantive IV.}}
Produces:
|
Description: Stormtrooper, A New Hope (Stunt) |
Enhanced costuming levels
This one varies from detachment to detachment and may require Brian Anderson's assistance.
Some detachments define additional levels above 501st approval. This template would describe those levels, if applicable. As such, one template must be created for each detachment, describing their unique levels. Skip this one if you don't already know what template to use, and contact Brian.
As of this edit, the following templates exist:
- CRLfisdlevels
Approval Information
There are three options here.
= Work in progress
If the CRL is in development, use this one:
{{CRLwipapproval}}
Which produces:
| This CRL is a work in progress and is not yet ready to use for GML approval! |
GML Approval
If the costume is of a type that the GMLs can review/approve, use
{{CRLgmlapproval}}
Which produces:
| This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type. |
LMO Approval
If the costume is of a type that the LMO must approve, use
{{CRLlmoapproval}}
Which produces
| This CRL entry has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team. Costumes of this type must be submitted to the LMO team via the GML forum at 501st.com for approval. | |
Costuming Requirements subheading (CRLrequirements)
Insert this as-is
{{CRLrequirements}}
Which will produce:
| Required Costume Components | |
|
The following costume components must be present and appear as described below for approval .
CRL Template, the main page content (CRLtemplate)
This is the bulk of the content of the CRLs. You'll use this template multiple times, for each of the components of the CRL.
It takes 5 values:
- Uploaded mage, in the format of File:image.jpg. If the images have not been uploaded yet, leave this blank.
- Description of the part
- List of 501st requirements
- List of level 1 requirements. Just use a single space if there is no level 1 requirement for this part.
- List of level 2 requirements. Just use a single space if there is no level 2 requirement for this part.
Example:
{{CRLtemplate|File:TK_anh_stunt_butt.jpeg|Butt Plate|* It is allowable to have a single kidney/butt plate for 501st requirements. If a separate butt plate is used, it should line up below the bottom of the belt with with the ab plate, with minimal gap between it and the kidney plate.|*A separate butt plate is required.| }}
Produces:
Costume Accessories Subheading
Once you've listed all of the parts of the costume, insert:
{{CRLaccessories}}
To produce:
| Optional Accessories | |
|
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present must meet the guidelines below.
After the Accessories heading, continue to use CRLTemplate to describe any weapons or optional components for the costume.
There are some pieces that will be reused across multiple CRLs. Examples include:
- CRLdh17 will insert a CRL block for a generic DH-17 rifle.
- CRLgeneric-e11 will insert a CRL block for a generic E-11 rifle.
- CRLdc17pistol-animated Animated "commander pistols"
- CRLdc15s-animated Animated Carbine
- CRLdc15a-animated Animated Rifle
