Commander Cody leads the 212th attack battalion, and is Obi-Wan Kenobi's second-in-command.


The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

IMPORTANT: The "Animated" armor design, seen in The Clone Wars CG Series, differs from the "Realistic" armor design used to create characters from the theatrical films and graphic novels.

  • Please note that the use of the word "should" below does not indicate that the armor piece is considered open to interpretation. All instances of "should be" and "should have" will be replaced with "is" and "has", as this guide is completed.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

Animated Cody Helmet.png Helmet
For 501st approval:
  • Clone Wars style helmet required. Movie style helmets cannot be combined with animated armor.
  • Helmet must be painted matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • The top of the helmet fin, sides and rear underside shall be painted dark tangerine and weathered.
  • An animated visor shall be attached to the helmet just over the lens. the visor shall be painted dark tangerine and weathered with a 1" white stripe from the helmet to the front of the brim, centered. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • A dark tangerine starburst shall be painted around the vocoder on the chin. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • The ear caps on the left and rights sides of the helmet shall be painted dark tangerine and weathered.
  • A dark tangerine communications antenna shall be attached to the right side of the helmet at the ear cap.
  • A white led lamp with a red lens shall be mounted to the left side of the visor.
  • A black visor extends down through the entire frown area.
  • Narrow fin on dome.
  • Raised bump at each ear, 1" - 1.25" in diameter.
  • 4 Vents on each side of helmet. May be painted black or grey, or cut out and filled with black mesh.
  • A grey stripe runs around back of dome.
  • Raised satin white circle at the back of the helmet.
  • Rectangular indent at the back of the helmet shall be black or heavily weathered grey.

  • Helmet and helmet accessories must be weathered.

For 501st approval:
  • Neck seal is black in color with no ribbing.
  • No logos or labels are visible.
    • If the seal is not incorporated as part of the under suit, a balaclava or other similar covering is acceptable.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Neck seal closes in the front via 2 small black snaps.

For 501st approval:
  • Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos.


150px Shoulder Bells and Upper Arm Armor
For 501st approval:
  • Armor must be painted matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Right shoulder armor shall be dark tangerine and look to be weathered.
  • Left shoulder armor shall be dark tangerine and have a secondary antenna for communications attached pointing back and look to be weathered. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • Shoulders should be padded so as not to sit flat against the arms. The top of the bell should sit 3/4" - 1" above the natural shoulder.
  • Shoulder bells and antenna must be weathered.
  • Armor must be painted matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Armor has a notch on the lower area of the back of the arm that matches up with the elbow armor.
  • Armor must be seamless. No visible traces of how the armor was assembled should be shown.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Upper arm armor must be weathered.
For level three certification (if applicable):

For 501st approval:
  • Armor must be painted matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Left forearm must have a compad that has 4 main square recessed areas and 1 slightly smaller square recessed area. The smaller recess is closest to the elbow.
  • Armor must be seamless on the outside edge. Due to the shape of the armor, a butted seam is acceptable on the inside if required.
  • Elbow plate is integrated into the forearm, extending up to fit into the notch on the bicep.
  • Elbow plate attached to the forearm shall be painted dark tangerine. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • Armor must be seamless. No visible traces of how the armor was assembled should be shown.
  • Forearm armor must be weathered.

For 501st approval:
  • Hand plates shall be dark tangerine. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Hand plates are reverse images of each other.

For 501st approval:
  • Black over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile fabrics.
  • Gloves cover any exposed skin.
  • Gloves do not show any labels or logos when the armor is worn.

For 501st approval:
  • Armor must be matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Chest armor shall have one 3" dark tangerine stripe located center chest, starting at the bottom and squared off about half way up on the chest.
  • Chest armor shall have two 1 1/2" dark tangerine stripes shall be located left and right of the center stripe running diagonally toward the arms and squared off the same as the center stripe. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • The shoulder straps shall be painted dark tangerine and the top edges of the ribs shall be painted satin white and weathered. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • Chest armor must be weathered.

Animated Cody Thighs.png Thigh Armor
For 501st approval:
  • Armor must be matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Thigh armor shall have a dark tangerine diagonal 2" stripe the runs from the front of the hip to the inside of the knee. The thighs are reverse images of each other. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • Thigh armor must be weathered.

For 501st approval:
  • Armor must be matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
  • Shin armor shall be satin white on the lower front and back sides. The knee plate shall be painted dark tangerine with a white stripe in the center of the knee strap that runs from one side to the other. Consult reference images for more detail.
  • Shin armor must be weathered.

For 501st approval:
  • White, ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle and eliminate any black undersuit visible at the ankle area.
  • Boots are lace-less and have flat soles.
  • Boots have a center strip running from the toe to the ankle.
  • A strap across the top of the foot, and 2 flat white discs on either side of the foot, terminating the strap.

  • Boots have accurate notched sole.
  • Armor must be matte or satin white. If weathered, the weathering should be shades of grey.
