Commander Fox appears in the "Deception" episode of Season 4. He is the commander that accepts Hardeen into custody. While never named in the episode, it has been confirmed that it is Fox. Commander Fox appears again in The Clone Wars Season 5 episode "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much" as the head of the Republic detention facility.


The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

IMPORTANT: The "Animated" armor design, seen in The Clone Wars CG Series, differs from the "Realistic" armor design used to create characters from the theatrical films and graphic novels.

  • Please note that the use of the word "should" below does not indicate that the armor piece is considered open to interpretation. All instances of "should be" and "should have" will be replaced with "is" and "has", as this guide is completed.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

Fox s4 helmet.jpg Helmet
For 501st approval:
  • Phase 2 Clone Wars style helmet required. Movie style helmets cannot be combined with animated armor.
  • Low fin with a narrow ridge along each side.
  • Grey frown with 3 black teeth either side. Teeth may be cut out and backed with black mesh or painted.
  • T shaped visor that extend down to the nose.
  • 2 aerators in the front, Aerators are black with a grey detail in the centre.
  • Each cheek tube has 6 black stripes.
  • 3 dark grey raised bumps on each ear.
  • Chin greeblie is painted black or dark grey.
  • Helmet is painted crimson.
  • Helmet fin is painted satin or matte white, if weathered it should be shades of grey.
  • Centre lower jaw is painted satin or matte white, if weathered crimson paint should show underneath the white.
  • There are 12 white stripes on the front of each tube, they should be evenly spaced starting at the 12 O’clock position and finishing at the 5 o’clock position for the left and 7 o’clock position for the right.
  • The cheeks should be painted satin or matte white and the white should extend around the ear and to the rear recessed areas finishing at the rear raised section.
  • There is an antenna behind the right ear, the base starts at the recessed area and finishes. approximately at the top of the ear cap. The antenna then extends from the base.
  • Antenna should be painted dark grey or black.
  • Bullet shape lamp with white lense on the left hand side of the dome sits just above the visor. Painted dark grey/black.
  • A phase 2 animated visor sits on the brow and extends to the back of each ear.
  • Visor should be painted dark grey or black with grey details.

  • Helmet must be weathered.

For 501st approval:
  • Neck seal is black in color with no ribbing.
  • No logos or labels are visible.
    • If the seal is not incorporated as part of the under suit, a balaclava or other similar covering is acceptable.

  • Neck seal closes in the front via (2) small black snaps.

  • Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos.


150px Shoulder Bells
For 501st approval:
  • Shoulders are a mirror image of each other in shape.
  • Shoulders taper at the centre toward the bottom edge.
  • Shoulders are painted satin or matte white, if weathered it should be shades of grey.
  • The left hand shoulder has the emblem of the galactic senate painted on it in crimson.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Shoulder bells must be weathered.
For level three certification (if applicable):

For 501st approval:
  • Biceps are cylindrical with no detail/sculptural features.
  • Biceps are painted crimson.
  • Biceps have 2 white stripes around the entire bicep. The top of the upper stripe should be at approximately half way down the bicep. The bottom stripe sits approximately 1/4” off the bottom of the bicep.

  • Armor must be weathered.

  • Armour must be painted crimson.
  • Right forearm must have a compad with 8 small buttons, 1 large main button, and 1 slightly small rectangular button. The compad must be painted white, if weathered It should be shades of grey.
  • Armour must be seamless on the outside edge. Due to the shape of the armour, a butted seam is acceptable on the inside if required.
  • Elbow plate is integrated into the forearm and does not extend past the arm.
For level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armor must be seamless. No visible traces of how the armor was assembled should be shown.
  • Armor must be weathered.

  • Black over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile fabrics.
  • Gloves cover any exposed skin.
  • Gloves do not show any labels or logos when the armor is worn.

  • Armour must be painted crimson.
  • The pecs of the chest are painted satin or matte white, if weathered it should be shades of grey.
  • Lower portion of the chest has an angular notch for the abdomen armour to fit into.
  • Chest and back plate must match together at the sides and shoulder with no gap.
  • Each side has a butted seam line where the front and back halves come together.
  • Dark scarlet shoulder straps should be placed underneath the chest to connect to the back.

  • Rear tank has detailed area that contains 4 circles. Under the circles at the left side of the back there should be two parallel blocks and the right of the back there should be 3 parallel blocks. All detail painted in dark grey.
  • Dark scarlet shoulder straps should be placed underneath the chest to connect to the back.

  • Belt and belt boxes must be painted satin or matte white.
  • Detonator is centres on the back of the belt with no control buttons. The detonator has 2 lines set in approx. ½”-5/8” from the edges. Lines may be recessed or painted on.
  • Detonator is painted crimson.
  • The inside of the detonator end caps is painted dark grey.

For level three certification (if applicable):

  • The kama must be made of black leather, leather like material, or heavy canvas.
  • The kama has primer grey trim.
  • The front edges of the kama should line up with the outside edges of the front two panels of the belt.
  • The back of the kama is split all the way up to the belt.
  • The bottom edges of the kama are rounded.
  • The kama should extend to the middle of the knee.

  • Holsters must be painted satin or matte white. If weathered, it should be shades of grey
  • Holsters connect to the belt via straps. Straps should be painted matte or satin white.

For 501st approval:
  • Armour must be painted crimson.
  • Front thigh armour should have a flat triangular area near the knee with a notch cut out for the knee armour. From the top of the triangle a ridge line should go up the front of the thigh to the top.
  • Armour must be seamless. No visible traces of how the armour was assembles should be shown.
  • Rear of the thigh should have an indentation.

  • Armour must be weathered.
For level three certification (if applicable):

For 501st approval:
  • Armour must be painted matte or satin white. If weathered, it should be shades of grey.
  • Knee armour is intergrated with the lower leg.
  • Knee armour must be painted crimson.
  • The armour must have a flat centre triangle below the knee plate, with the single point facing downward.
  • The calf detail of the armour has a ridge wrapping around the back of the leg.
  • Back of the lower legs should have an indentation just under the calf to follow down to the ankle
  • Calf can have an access area on the inside of the leg. The outside of the calf should be closed.

  • Armor must be weathered.
For level three certification (if applicable):
  • Calves should be seamless and have a trap door access through the indent in the rear of the lower leg.


Fox s4 boots.jpg Boots
For 501st approval:
  • White, ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle and eliminate any black undersuit visible at the ankle area in armour. Boots must be lace-less and have flat soles.
  • Boots have a cenre strip running from the toe to the ankle, a strap across the top fo the foot, and 2 flat white discs on either side of the foot, terminating the strap.
  • Soles are crimson.

  • Boots must have accurate notched sole.
  • Boots must be weathered.
