The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.
The Bounty Hunters' Guild defines two additional, optional levels of costuming excellence. In the page below, requirements for Level 1 "Notorious" are listed in blue. Level 2 "Infamous" requirements are in red. Please visit the BHG web site for a full description of these standards.
For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

- Please note that the use of the word "should" below does not indicate that a requirement is optional. All instances of should will be replaced with must as this guide is completed.

| Required Costume Components
|
|
The following costume components must be present and appear as described below for approval .
|
|
|
| Helmet For 501st approval:
- Must be dark brown in color.
- Must be weathered and should match the visual references as closely as possible.
- Must have two dark colored visors, one at eye level and one in the forehead.
- The forehead visor compartment and a panel on the top center back are silver in color.
- Must have 10 black evenly spaced vertical stripes on the lower back panel.
- The ear pieces are black with greeblies that are gun metal in color.
- Must have a scope projection piece mounted on the upper left side of helmet.
- The right side has “1138” in a dark red color above the ear piece.
- The left side has a stylized “C23” and eight vertical lines in a dark red color beside the scope.
- The snout and lower jaw are covered with light brown or tan colored deer skin or leather.
- A leather strap in the same color as the snout extends across the back of the helmet and is connected to the ear pieces. Six evenly spaced seams are sewn horizontally across it in a matching thread.
- A leather flap in the same color as the snout hangs from the inside of the helmet to cover the back and sides of the head with three vertical seams sewn at the center back in a matching thread.
- The end of the snout has a silver colored rounded trapezoid shape with two horizontal "trenches" and a black vertical "trench" in the center.

| Chest Armor For 501st approval:
- The chest armor is one piece that curves around the back and down the front of the chest.
- The chest armor covers each shoulder and extends up to cover the sides and back of the neck.
- Must have dimension and give the feeling of thickness and depth.
- The two front sections of armor are connected near the bottom edge by a trapezoid “commlink”.

| Tanks For 501st approval:
- Two cylindrical tanks hang from the back of the armor.
- Both tanks must be dark grey in color.
- The left tank is slightly longer than the right tank, with exposed parts inlaid down the front side.
- The tanks are connected by a small horizontal metal tube fixed to the upper front sides.
- Lettering symbols (either hand painted or decals) must match visual references as closely as possible.

| Bandolier For 501st approval:
- Consists of a waist belt with a second belt worn diagonally over the right shoulder and connects to the waist belt in front and back at the left hip.
- Must be webbing or parachute strap material, silver grey in color and approximately 2” wide. A 2” wide black parachute clip attaches the waist belt over the right hip.
- Must have the following components attached to the diagonal belt in order starting from the top of the right shoulder: T-shaped component, six small cylinders, two rectangular boxes with cylinder between.
- Must have the following components attached to the waist belt: two cylinders on left side.
- All patterns, colors and weathering must match visual references as closely as possible.

| Outer Tunic For 501st approval:
- Must be tan or beige in color.
- Must be sueded pigskin or similar looking material.
- Must be a "karate" style tunic with elbow length sleeves and V-neck opening.
- Must be long enough to reach the bottom of the hip.
- Must be weathered to match visual references as closely as possible.

| Inner Shirt For 501st approval:
- Must be dark brown in color.
- Must be sueded pigskin or similar looking material.
- Must have a mock turtleneck and long sleeves that extend to the knuckles and have a thumb hole.
- Spiked metal studs are fixed to the sleeves over the back of the hands in the following triangular arrangement moving up from the knuckles: five spikes, two spikes, one spike.
- Spikes must stand up from the sleeve and not hang loosely.

| Cape For 501st approval:
- Must be beige in color.
- Must be a coarsely woven fabric.
- Shoulders of the cape are fixed to the Bandolier at the right shoulder and left hip to hang down the back.
- Must be weathered to match visual references as closely as possible.

| Pants For 501st approval:
- Must be medium brown in color.
- Must be made from leather or similar looking material.
- Must have two horizontal seams in the front sewn above the knee approximately 4” apart.
- Must have a pleated or gathered section in the front starting just above the knee and flows into the boot.
- Must be weathered to match visual references as closely as possible.

| Girth Belt For 501st approval:
- Must be sueded pigskin or similar looking material and dark brown in color.
- Must be made or horizontal rows of suede-covered rope (or similar material) and be approximately 5” wide, depending on the height of the person. Typically 16 to 18 rows of rope constitutes the average size girth belt.
- Belt attaches in rear. Heavy duty velcro or lacing is recommended for durability.
- Must be weathered to match visual references as closely as possible.

| Lower Leg Spats For 501st approval:
- Must be tan or beige in color.
- Must be made from sueded pigskin or similar looking material.
- Must cover the lower leg from the heel to mid-calf.
- Must have vertical topstitching sewn approximately 1.5” apart around the circumference of the spat.
- Must have a black "quick clip" at the top rear of the spats.
- Must have a matching ridged belt across the front of the lower leg attached at the ankles. A round circle piece is attached at each outer ankle and is gun-metal in color.

| Shoes/Boots For 501st approval:
- Must be tan or beige in color.
- Must be worn under the Lower Leg Spats.
- Must have a low heel and be free of laces or other details.

| Gloves For 501st approval:
- Must be beige in color and of a thin, soft leather or similar material and worn tucked underneath the Inner Shirt sleeves.

| Belt For 501st approval:
- Must be leather or similar sturdy material, medium brown in color and approximately 1.5” wide.
- The buckle is rectangular in shape and is gunmetal grey / black in color. It has an oval detail in the center with a small raised dot within the oval located slightly to one side.
- The belt is worn on top of the Girth Belt and may overlap the Bandolier.
