ANOVOS Costumes and the 501st

You've likely seen the new Star Wars costumes coming from ANOVOS, and there are a lot of questions regarding what will be "501st approved" in terms of applying for Legion membership. We certainly appreciate the interest in joining our ranks and are always looking for more costumed fans to spread the love of Star Wars and to serve the community through charity work!

It is important to understand that approvals in the Legion are based upon several factors, including accurate components and the proper fit of the overall costume. As such, approvals are done on a case-by-case basis when an individual's membership application photos are submitted to local unit membership officers. So there is no such thing as a costume that is "guaranteed" for approval—even a costume purchased from a fellow fan that was already approved may be subject to review when worn on a different person.

What we can tell you is that less-accurate "off the shelf" costumes have been approved with the proper modifications, so it is entirely within the realm of possibility that the new items coming from ANOVOS (including Darth Vader, Jango Fett, a Phase II Clone Trooper, and an Imperial Officer) could be used as the foundation for membership. Also note that the images revealed thus far are prototypes and are therefore subject to change.

We hope this helps to clarify our membership process, particularly as it pertains to licensed costumes. Read more about membership HERE and HERE!
